Morgan's Story: A Swim to Remember

Saturday, July 9th, 2016

After attending an aerobics/ dance class, I left my home in Orlando to go to the beach with a group of friends.  I remember having a fantastic feeling all day, from the moment I woke up.  Something was magical about this day, I could feel it!  The reality was- I had no idea.

We arrived at Cocoa Beach, it was such a beautiful day.  We laid down our towels, set up umbrellas, and a couple friends and I headed for the water.  The water was so warm and the waves were pretty good.  I was in my element- my happy place.  I noticed this surfer who seemed to be staring at me, I turned to my friend and I asked "Is that guy cute or is it just me?"  He had a much longer board than any of the other surfers so it was easy for me to keep my eye on him.  He kept getting closer and closer and after about 10 minutes I finally shouted to him "I keep thinking you're going to hit us!"  He replied with a big smile and said "I haven't done that in a couple years."

I couldn't stop laughing and smiling. We started a conversation, my friends swimming up to us and joining in every so often.  After what seemed like hours, I realized I had no idea what his name was. "Ryan" he responded. "I'm sure you know a hundred people named Ryan"  Even in that moment, I knew he was one I wouldn't forget.

We exchanged contact information and left the water with a hug.  A week later Ryan took me on our first date in Orlando at Ethos restaurant and Enzian Theater.  The end of our first chapter, and the beginning of many more (lord willing).

Ryan's Story: And I'm Sticking to It

It was a sweltering Saturday in mid-July and the sun and surf were calling me. After checking the cam’s it was clear the South-side of Cocoa Beach Pier was the place to be.

I loaded up the truck and made the short drive north from my house in Satellite Beach, slipped into a parking spot, waxed up my board, and broke for the water. Refreshing wasn’t quite the word for it, maybe bath water is a better descriptor? None the less, it had all the hallmarks of a lazy summer surf session.

Twenty or so waist high peelers later and I was still trying to decide if the North-side looked any better. So, I caught a few Rights to get a closer look. The last of which was breaking into a small crowd. I thought, the speed bumps are in full effect.

I turned my board toward the beach, took a few strokes, stood up, bottom turned, trimmed, looked up, and there she was. The cutest girl bobbing right in front of me. I thought, I’ll give her a little scare and see what she's made of! We locked eyes as I passed by, with inches to spare, and I realized I was the one being struck, by the most beautiful smile.

As I was paddling back out she proclaimed “you almost hit us”. I thought to myself, that was the point. But, I smiled back and said I haven’t hit anyone in years... Not knowing what else to say, and not being certain she was yet thoroughly impressed with my surfing, I thought it best to catch a few more waves while I had her attention. Less than 5 minutes had passed before I was off my board bobbing right alongside her, completely enchanted, probably ruining the moment with 21 questions. But, to my awe she accepted all of my ridiculous questions with grace and beauty. I left the beach that day with a hug and an unbelievable gratitude to the surf gods for delivering me Morgan, in the absolute perfect way.
